Evaluation question 3

Evaluation question 3

In our music video we used various media technologies for example brand new state of the art JVC video cameras so that we'd make the best quality music video possible. Furthermore during the process of the construction of our music video we used other media devices such as cameras for our ancillary products (Advertisement and Digipak) and tripods to keep a steady camera at various different heights and angles as well as a sound kit and lighting kit.

Other essential media equipments that we used were a hard drive this was extremely handy as we saved all our progress there and imac computers which opened up a whole bunch of media resources, for example blogger where we used to display research and also planned for future intentions we had for our music video and used for evaluation purposes.

Internet sites such as youtube were used for research purposes, with youtube we searched music videos relating to our genre so we could analyse and set a basis on what our music video could look like also so we could see how we could possibly challenge the conventions of our genre. I also combined youtube and blogger by posting up links on blogger of youtube videos.

I used photoshop in the manufacturing of our ancillary products (Digipak and advertisement), within photoshop i used a specific tool which worked to great effect which was the magic wand with this tool and the making of background images i successfully merged my artist onto a made background image ( back cover). In Photoshop i also added effects, 1 effect i found very useful was the lightning effect which i applied in the background of my inside panel.

After i used photoshop for my ancillary products i automatically exported them to Quark express as i found this application way more useful in applying texts, it was through Quark express where i applied the font ,sizes and colour of the fonts after which i put in the logos and copyright images. so in all the making of the ancillary products i combined Quark Express with photoshop to come up with the end product for my Digipak and Advertisement.

i used a similar combination between two other programmes which are Final cut pro and Livetype.
Final cut pro was essential in making the whole music video, in gelling together all the takes that we had taken. Using Final cut pro i used many different tools as i cropped clips exported files and added various effects that were needed to make the end product of our music video. A specific effect i used was the ripple effect i used it on a scene near the end which i believed helped keep the audience intrigued another effect i used was a dissolve effect and a cube spin effect which i used to transition some clips.
I also used some creativity to combine both Livetype and Final cut pro, to do this i inserted text in Livetype then exported it into Final cut pro and managed to successfully apply text into the background where my artist was performing. Using all these media technologies i successfully made my ancillary product and music video.

Evaluation question 4

Audience feedbacks

The initial reaction from the audience in the cinema when they viewed our music video was a positive reaction. They seemed to really enjoy watching our music video and from feedback we received, different people had different points which really made it memorable the most common one was the comical gesture did near the beginning which is ideal as it was a main point where we challenged the conventions of our genre.

One of the comments we received was that our lighting wasn't used to it's full potential meaning some scenes looked too dark. To improve on this we would use the lighting more effectively by bringing a lighting kit with us when we're filming or even getting our angles right when filming in the day. So that for example we don't end up with the sun behind our artist.

What i've learned from the audience feedbacks is mainly that we should have used the lighting to it's greatest potential and also that we should have sped up some of the editing more to keep in time with the pace of the song as if we did that it would make our music video feel that much more like a grime/ drum n bass music video.

Evaluation question 1

Evaluation question 1

This was the basis of our music video, it was what we were most influenced by although it does not mean we didn't challenge the forms of convention of this genre in one way or another. What we used similar to do this music video was the fact that the back ground where the artist mainly sang was darkish we were also inspired by the creativeness of the music video for example the way the texts would pop up in the music video while the artist was singing. Also ofcourse it was the idea for the orginal song that we decided to go with came from.

Another video that also played an infuential part in our music video was David Guetta's music video 'Memories' me and my group wanted to take most advantage of the tools that we were gifted in particular the camera angles and one that stood out for us in particular was the tracking shot we searched for which artists used it well and we came to the conclusion that David Guetta used it essentially well when he was singing and walking at the same time .below is his music video, which we mirrored his tracking shot technique in our own video.

Also below is where we use a tracking shot  in Our music video in the London Bridge scene at 2 minutes and 22 seconds.

The Digipak i made is very conventional especially with the mise en scene, the clothing really suits our genre, urban/drum and bass'.
The advertisement was also very conventional with the font and sizes of the font and also the colour scheme was done to great effect.

we also fairly stuck to the conventions of the genres of our music video however we also challenged it in some area for example near the beginning of our music video we have a comical gesture  in an otherwise quite serious music video.

In relation to the pace of the editing in our music video i took inspiration from artists such as ice cube in his music video 'you can do it' also usher in the performance presence that he displays through his music videos.

Analysis of Advertisement

This is an an advertisement i analysed from Tinie Tempah, i found analysing this artist ideal especially because my coursework originated from this artist. In this poster advertisement you can see that the font is all the same and the colour scheme and design represents the artist's music genre which is techno/pop.

Another artist that i analysed was 'Omarion' in this advertisment of his album called 'Ice Box' there is a revelevance between the image on the front cover and the bass storyline of what he sings about it is not instantly clear to which genre this artist belongs to but through the mise en scene that you can see in his clothes you can get an indication that this artist is an R&B styled singer.

Below is an example of one of 'Omarion's songs which coincidentally also has the same name as the album.

The final artist advertisement that i analysed was from the artist 'Daft Punk' the name gives away the genre style which is punk/house music and the font corresponds perfectly with the genre. This alongside with the colour scheme is an attention catcher and will help pull in many sales.

Analysis of 3 Digi paks

The first digi pak that i decided to analyse was a digipak from an artist that i have previously worked on and that is the digipak of Usher Raymond.

This album cover perfectly illustrates the genre of songs which usher sings which is R&B we see this through his mise en scene in the clothes that he is wearing. Furthermore in the beautiful girls that are surrounding him.

This the music video to which the album cover goes to and in the video you can see the relation between the digi pak the musicvideo and the genre of the song.

  • Another digipak i analysed was one from Daft punk in this Digi pak it is more font than image that gives the viewer an indication for which genre this belongs to, and through my research i have come up with the genre of techno, this is a vaguely fast up tempo genre.

Another digipak i analysed was one from the artist 'Ne-Yo' immediently what draws the viewer in is the contrast in font size and the fact that all the letters are in capital also helps draw in customers. With this particular digipak is hard to distiguish the genre straight away but from the top of my head i would say this is urban music i get this indication from the style of hat the artist is wearing and also the colours involved in the digipak.

    Short list of potential songs

My group had a various list of song possiblities, these are some of the songs that we could have possibly chosen.

Firstly and a choice we kept coming back to was 'The Future' by Logic

This next song was also a hot contestant to be our final choice as the artist is the same but we just felt it lacked a little 'umph' so decided not to go with it.

    Final song choice

After much negotiation between me and my other fellow group members we came to a decision which is the following video from Tinie Tempah.
